Even though I wrote this book when I was very little, I still believe today that it has a good message of right and wrong. This is a story about bullying. Bullies make a lot of bad things happen in school to good kids who cannot fight back and are afraid to get in trouble. Now many schools are trying to fight back against bullies, because innocent children are dying or getting hurt because they are smart. Sometimes its because they look or act different, but most times there is no reason at all.

Once in the fourth grade, a boy sitting next to me kept sticking me in my side with a pen. Almost everyday I was in trouble with the teacher, because when I tried to protect myself I would get caught because he was better at pretending than I am. Finally my Mommy and Daddy had to go to the school and talk to the principal and my teacher and they fixed it. In the fifth grade, a girl took my glasses from my face while I was taking a test. She dropped it on the floor and broke it. Even though the teacher was upset with her, the girl’s parents did nothing and my Mom and Dad had to buy me new glasses.

In the story, the bad Butterfly is a bully because he is jealous and unhappy. Bumblebee Longhorn Needle was smaller than the Butterfly, so he thought he could get away with pushing him around. Bumblebee Longhorn Needle stood up to him, and he learned not to pick on others who seem vulnerable or weak. I hope every child who is being picked on will tell their parents, teachers or even a grown up in their school or community who will help them.

"Universal Write Publications LLC sent me a review copy of their children's book called "Bumblebee Longhorn Needle". I was impressed by the bold colorful cover that is an eye catcher and as I flipped through the book this stands true for the whole color illustration. It's been a long time since I've read a book that started off with "Once upon a time" so those four words took me back to my early years of avid reading.

"This book tells the story of the big Butterfly who was not afraid of anything, and the Bumblebee Longhorn Needle. The Butterfly believes he's the best thing since sliced bread, while the Bumblebee just buzzes along being happy and minding his own business. As the Butterfly watches the Bumblebee he forms a jealousy towards him and tries to cause trouble.
You'll want to read this one to see what transpires between the two and who gets the message loud and clear that bullying is not the answer!
